What is your hourly rate?
Most professional copywriters offer a range of charging methods. These include daily, half day and hourly rates. In general, we find the most cost-effective way to price a copywriting task is on a project basis. This provides you with a clear certainty of cost, including the copywriting brief, drafts and edits.
Do you have any writing samples?
Professional copywriters create content to answer your brief. We’ve got loads of samples, but just because one has a certain tone doesn’t mean your copywriting will have the same flavour. You may position your business differently, or target alternative markets that need another writing approach.
Is quick turnaround a problem?
Good writers are booked well in advance so try not to leave content for last. Copywriters spend the same time reading, thinking, writing and editing, regardless of timeline. If the writer can meet your tight deadline, expect to pay a premium.
What comes first, design or content?
Powerful communication takes visual and text elements that work together. So the answer is really neither. Having said that, clients often approach Cluey for writing support after the layout is approved. In this case, your copywriter will develop content to complement the agreed design (eg. in suitable word volume to populate breakout boxes).
Can you edit my existing content?
Content editing is a good option if your budget doesn’t extend to a full copywriting service. Cluey gives existing content the polish it needs to engage your readers and propel them to act.
How many words do I need for a web page?
That depends on the sort of website you have and its purpose. For example, professional services, online stores & government resources have different drivers. For SEO copywriting, 100 words is a general minimum and more than 1,000 is too much. Usually around 300 words is visible in one screen.
Are you experienced writing for my type of business?
Freelance copywriters work across a broad range of industries. So we’ll probably have experience writing within your sector. You can ask us for a sample or view some of our work online.
What SEO tasks can you do?
SEO copywriting is a task that requires resources plus the knowledge and skill to apply them. Cluey enjoys in-house expertise in keyword research, SEO strategy and on-page optimisation. We also offer copywriting support for off-page tactics like social media and online articles.
How do you charge?
Wherever possible we provide a project fee estimate to give you some predictability about cost.
Can we meet face to face?
Copywriters support many clients without ever actually meeting. But that doesn’t suit everyone. If you’re in Melbourne we’re happy to take your brief in person. Or a Skype video conference is possible if you’re further afield.
How many revisions are included?
In general, Cluey only need one round of edits to get your content humming. But we always allow for two.
How does payment work?
Before your writing work gets underway, most projects will require a deposit payment. You can find the Cluey copywriting terms of trade here.
Do I own the copyright to my content?
After your account is paid in full, all copyright passes to you. So you can use the work for as long as you like or publish your content in any format.
Can you write content for technical products or services?
Niche technical content often needs copy writing finesse. Cluey translates long words and technical jargon into professional, plain English your audience understands.
Are you interested in my project?
Most likely, although Cluey doesn’t take on every writing assignment. Just as you hope to find a copywriter who’s a good fit with your business and budget, your freelancer is asking themselves ‘is this a writing project I want to take on‘.
Do you supply a design for my content?
Discuss this from the outset and your copywriter will provide the content with a suggested layout. Professional design is best left to an expert.
How will I receive the writing work?
All our copywriting is presented for review and feedback in a professional format as a *pdf file. If you prefer a trackable Word version, please ask.
